The National Health Security Office (NHSO) plans to standardise the cancer treatment programme for patients of the three state-run universal healthcare schemes by April,secretary-general Winai Sawasdivorn said yesterday.
The decision followed complaints over discrepancies in medication and treatment services for cancer patients in the three schemes.
Mr Winai said the three health schemes operate independently from one another and use different standards in providing services for their members.
The NHSO will start using a single medical standard in providing medical care for cancer patients of the three health schemes.
It hopes to require operators of the schemes to include cancer check-up services for all their members and use the same surgery and chemotherapy standards for all patients from April. Mr Winai conceded, however, that he has yet to discuss the matter with the administrators of the healthcare schemes.
Last year, the NHSO standardised emergency health care services for HIV/Aids treatment and kidney treatment as part of efforts to reduce service gaps under the schemes.
